Dear All,
ealthcare delivery and environmental sustainability are no longer separate
priorities—they are deeply interconnected. At Assam Cancer Care Foundation,
Hthe vision of building greener hospitals is rooted in the understanding that
healing environments must also protect the ecosystems that sustain life. As we expand
cancer care infrastructure across Assam, we are equally committed to reducing the
environmental footprint of our facilities.
Energy efficiency is one of the most impactful steps in this direction. Hospitals are
energy-intensive by nature, operating round the clock with critical systems of medical
equipment, air conditioning, ventilation, lighting etc. By integrating energy-efficient
systems, optimising HVAC operations, and adopting smart building management
systems, we aim to significantly reduce energy consumption without compromising
patient safety or comfort. Plans include the gradual integration of renewable energy
solutions, such as solar power, to further strengthen our commitment to clean energy
use.
Equally important is effective waste management. Healthcare facilities generate diverse
categories of waste, including biomedical, hazardous, and general waste. Segregation
at source, strict adherence to biomedical waste protocols, and responsible disposal
practices are essential to prevent environmental contamination and ensure public
safety. Strengthening training programmes for healthcare workers and support staff
helps build a culture of compliance and accountability.

Environmental responsibility also extends to everyday operational choices. Reducing
single-use plastics, promoting digital documentation to minimise paper use, and
encouraging sustainable procurement practices are small but meaningful steps toward
greener healthcare delivery. Landscaping with native plant species and maintaining
green zones within hospital campuses further enhances environmental balance and
patient well-being.
As we move forward, our goal is to embed sustainability into every layer of healthcare
infrastructure. Building greener hospitals is not just an operational strategy—it is a
moral responsibility toward our patients, our communities, and future generations.
